You’ve got questions.
We’ve got answers.
Straight answers about insurance coverage, GLP-1 medications, and what real physician-led care looks like at Aayu Well.
Insurance & Cost
What your care costs, what your plan covers, and how we handle the paperwork.
Do you accept my insurance?
Yes. Aayu Well is an insurance-based medical practice. Your visits are billed to your insurance just like any doctor’s office, so you pay only your plan’s copay or coinsurance. We are in network with:
- Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois
- UnitedHealthcare
- Aetna
- Cigna
- Medicare
We verify your benefits before your first visit, so you know exactly what your cost will be before you ever see a bill.
Is there a monthly membership or program fee?
No. Unlike subscription weight loss companies, we do not charge monthly program fees. Your care is billed through your insurance, and your cost is simply your plan’s copay or coinsurance for each visit.
Will my insurance cover the medication?
For most insured patients, yes. We submit a prior authorization to your plan for brand-name GLP-1 medication (Wegovy® or Zepbound®) and manage the entire process for you, including appeals if your plan pushes back.
Our team also helps you enroll in manufacturer savings programs that can significantly reduce your monthly copay when you qualify.
What if my insurance denies the medication?
First, we appeal. Many initial denials are overturned with the right clinical documentation, and we handle that for you.
If your plan still will not cover a GLP-1, your physician will walk you through alternatives, including other covered medications and compounded options from an FDA-registered pharmacy at a transparent cash price. You will never be left without a plan.
What will my first visit cost?
It depends on your plan, and we find out for you before you are seen. When you complete our intake, we verify your benefits and tell you your expected copay upfront. No surprise bills.
Can I use my FSA or HSA?
Yes. FSA and HSA funds can be used for copays, coinsurance, and any other out-of-pocket costs.
Getting Started
Who qualifies, how the first visit works, and where we practice.
How do I get started?
Three simple steps:
- Complete our online intake. It takes about five minutes.
- We verify your insurance benefits and confirm your coverage.
- Meet your physician by video or in person, often within days.
Am I a candidate for medical weight loss?
Generally, you may qualify for GLP-1 treatment if you have a BMI of 30 or higher, or a BMI of 27 or higher with a weight-related condition such as prediabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, or high cholesterol.
Your physician makes the final determination based on your full health picture, not a checkbox.
Do I need to come into an office?
No. Most visits happen over secure video from wherever you are. If you prefer to be seen in person, our office in Chicago welcomes you.
When labs are needed, we send the order to a lab location near you, and the lab bills your insurance directly.
Which states do you serve?
We are licensed in ten states, including Illinois, and expanding. When you complete the intake we confirm availability in your state.
If we are not in your state yet, email support@aayuwell.com and we will let you know as soon as we arrive.
Medications
What we prescribe, why brand-name comes first, and how safety is managed.
What medications do you prescribe?
Our physicians prescribe the full range of FDA-approved weight management medications, including brand-name GLP-1s such as Wegovy® (semaglutide) and Zepbound® (tirzepatide), as well as non-GLP-1 options like metformin when they are the better fit.
The choice is always personalized to your health history, your goals, and your insurance coverage.
Why do you start with brand-name instead of compounded?
Because it is better medicine and usually better for your wallet. Brand-name medications are FDA approved, precisely dosed, and covered by many insurance plans, which often makes them cheaper than a compounded subscription.
We always pursue insurance coverage for brand-name medication first. Compounded medication is a fallback we can offer if your plan ultimately will not cover a GLP-1, never the default.
Do you prescribe over chat?
No. GLP-1 medications are too powerful to prescribe from a questionnaire and a chat box. Every prescription at Aayu Well follows a real visit with a physician, with labs and vitals reviewed and your dose adjusted based on how you actually respond.
What about side effects?
Most side effects, like nausea or constipation, are mild and improve as your body adjusts. We start at a low dose and increase gradually to keep them manageable.
If something does come up, you message your care team through the app and your physician adjusts the plan. You are never managing side effects alone.
Care & Results
Who treats you, how often, and what results to expect.
Who will be treating me?
You are treated by Dr. Darshan Patel, a board-certified physician, with support from a registered dietitian. Your care is managed by a doctor who knows your chart, not a rotating cast of prescribers.
How often will I have visits?
You will have regular follow-up visits while your dose is being adjusted, then less frequently once you are stable. Follow-ups are billed to your insurance like any office visit, and you can message your care team through the app between visits.
How much weight can I expect to lose?
In clinical trials, patients taking GLP-1 medications alongside lifestyle changes lost an average of 15 to 21 percent of their body weight over about a year. Individual results vary, and your physician will set realistic expectations with you at your first visit.
How quickly will I see results?
Many patients notice reduced appetite within the first couple of weeks and meaningful weight change within the first two to three months. Most patients reach their maximum weight loss within 8 to 12 months of consistent treatment.
Can you also help with mental health?
Yes. Weight and mental health are deeply connected, and our physicians treat common conditions such as anxiety, depression, and sleep problems as part of your care, billed to your insurance like any other visit. When specialized care is needed, we refer you to the right specialist.
What happens when I reach my goal?
Reaching your goal is the start of maintenance, not the end of care. Your physician builds a plan with you, which may include tapering your dose, continuing at a maintenance dose, and locking in the habits that protect your results long term.
Not sure what your plan covers?
Complete our five minute intake and we will verify your benefits before your first visit. You will know your exact cost upfront.
