Saxenda® (liraglutide) injection 3 mg is a prescription medicine used for weight loss in adults with

What is Saxenda?

• Active Ingredient: Liraglutide.
• Drug Class: Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) agonists.
• Indications: Weight loss in obese adults (BMI ≥30) or overweight adults (BMI ≥27) with
  weight-related medical problems, and in children aged 12-17 years with obesity.
• Administration: Subcutaneous injection once a day from a multi-dose injection pen.

How Does Saxenda Work?

• Saxenda aids weight loss by decreasing appetite, slowing gastric emptying, and thereby reducing
  calorie intake. It is similar to a hormone that occurs naturally in the body and helps control blood

Side Effects and Warnings

• Common Side Effects:Include nausea, diarrhea, constipation, vomiting, injection site
  reactions, low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), headache, tiredness, dizziness, and stomach pain.
• Serious Side Effects: Can include pancreatitis, gallbladder problems, low blood sugar,
  increased heart rate, kidney problems, serious allergic reactions, and depression or thoughts of
  suicide. Saxenda may cause thyroid tumors, including cancer, and should not be used by those with a
  personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) or Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia
  syndrome type 2 (MEN 2).

Usage Instructions

• Saxenda should be injected under the skin once per day. It can be injected at any time of the day,
  with or without a meal, and should not be used together with Victoza (another brand containing
  liraglutide) or other GLP-1 receptor agonist medicines.

Special Considerations

• Contraindications: Do not use Saxenda if you are allergic to liraglutide, have MTC or MEN 2,
  diabetic ketoacidosis, or are pregnant.
• Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Not recommended for use in pregnancy and breastfeeding. It is
  not known if Rybelsus will harm an unborn baby, and breastfeeding is not recommended during
  treatment with Rybelsus.

Drug Interactions and Contraindications

• Inform your healthcare provider about all the medicines you take, including prescription,
  over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements, as Saxenda may affect the way some
  medicines work and vice versa

Storage

• Store unopened Saxenda pens in the refrigerator. After the first injection, it may be refrigerated
  or stored at controlled room temperature for 30 days. Keep the pen out of direct heat and sunlight.
